In even the most extreme environments, Gates belts are a durable and effective solution. Gates Corporations was founded in Denver, Colorado on October 1, 1911 by Charles Gates . In 1917, Gates invented the V-belt, which was a revolution in transmission. Where a flat belt had previously been used, now came the V-belt, which with its wedge shape provided better power transmission.

In 1946, Gates launched the timing belt. This belt improved efficiency and allowed the application to run more precisely – synchronously. Gates invention of the V-belt and timing belt created great success for the company and propelled Gates to become the largest manufacturer of V-belts, a title they still hold. Gates today employs more than 14,000 people and has sales and production activities in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
