Description

V-belt XPB 4000 - 17x14 MM - PIX X'tra ® - technical data for XPB V-belt

V-belt XPB 4000 - 17x14 MM - PIX X'tra ® is a raw edged and Cogged V-belts from the PIX X'tra® series. It is intended for belt drives where the profile, length and pulley groove must match exactly to ensure stable operation. This variant has profile XPB, goal 17x14MM, effective length Length 4000 mm, inside length L 3940 mm and external length Width 4028 mm.

XPB is a heavier timing narrow V-belt, often used when more power needs to be transmitted than in the smaller XPZ and XPA profiles. It should be used in pulleys that fit XPB and 17x14MMA belt with the same length but the wrong profile is not a safe alternative because the belt may be in the wrong groove and thus provide less contact surface.

Length specifications

When a belt is specified from an older marking, it is usually best to compare both the letter profile and length designation. A belt marked as XPB 4000 should not be confused with another profile of the same nominal length. Therefore, consider both Li, Ld and La along with the profile and dimensions.

The Ld dimension is the effective length and the length specification typically used for narrow V-belts. Li describes the inner length, while La describes the outer length. The three dimensions must be understood together with the profile, cross-section and pulley grooves, because the length designation alone does not describe the full geometry of the belt.

With Ld 4000 mm, the belt is a very long variant in this product group. Long belts require special attention to alignment, correct tensioning and the quality of the pulleys, because small deviations can propagate over a larger belt length.

Construction and technical features of PIX X'tra®

The construction is built for power transmission through the sides of the belt. According to PIX, the series consists of a cover in a special fabric layer, a cushion matrix in a rubber compound, a polyester cord as a tensile member and an EPDM base compound in the compression zone. It is precisely this combination that distinguishes a technical industrial belt from a random standard belt that is just about the same length.

When comparing to various V-belts, PIX X'tra® is relevant because the series combines raw edge grip with timing flexibility. According to the manufacturer's data, the series can provide higher power transmission than wrapped belts, better heat dissipation and operation at higher belt speeds, provided the belt is used in a correctly constructed belt drive. This makes the series suitable for many industrial operating tasks.

For the XPB profile, the PIX data sheet states the length range 550–8380 mm. This belt with Ld 4000 mm is in the range 3001–8380 mm, where the data sheet states a length tolerance of ±8 mm and a set tolerance of 4 mm. The tolerances are relevant when replacing, especially if several belts are to run in parallel or if the center distance can only be adjusted to a limited extent.

Use for the XPB profile

This XPB belt is relevant in medium and heavier applications where an XPZ or XPA profile does not provide sufficient bearing surface for the current belt drive. In operation, the pulley groove, the belt cross-section and the timing construction are important for the contact between the belt and pulley. Profile and length must match, as the correct length does not compensate for an incorrect cross-section.

The operating situation has a great impact on the belt's lifespan: is the belt running constantly, are there many starts/stops, is the load even, and are the pulleys clean and in good condition? This XPB belt is designed for mechanical power transmission, but lifespan and operation still depend on alignment, tension, temperature, pulley quality, and whether the belt is installed without damage.

Profile and pulley compatibility

XPB belongs to the same narrow profile family as SPB, but the belt has its own technical specification with a timing, raw-edge construction. The belt works with side contact in the pulley groove, and the correct groove profile is necessary for the contact surface, friction and load to be distributed correctly. Incorrect cross-section or skewed pulleys can cause overheating, noise, slippage and uneven wear.

The technical identification consists of the combination XPB, 17x14MM, Length 4000 mm, L 3940 mm, Width 4028 mm and PIX X'tra®The combination distinguishes the item from nearby V-belts with other profiles, other length standards or a different construction.

Installation and operation

After start-up, it is wise to listen for abnormal noise and feel for abnormal heat when it is safe to do so. Slippage, whining, vibrations or black belt dust may indicate incorrect tension, incorrect profile, worn pulleys or excessive load. The fault should be found before the machine continues to run for a long time.

When installing, the belt should be placed without being twisted or forced over the pulley with a screwdriver or other sharp tool. Instead, adjust the center distance or loosen the relevant tensioning device so that the belt can be installed without damage. After installation, the belt should have the tension that the machine is designed for, because both too loose and too tight a belt can cause problems.

If the belt drive uses multiple belts side by side, the belts should usually be replaced as a set. Belts of different ages or degrees of wear may have different lengths and stiffness, which can distribute the load unevenly. A uniform set provides better opportunity for smooth operation and less risk of one belt pulling more than the others.

The PIX X'tra® series was developed as moulded raw edge cogged belts and this XPB belt follows the same principle with raw side faces and timing underside. The design combines flexibility around the pulleys with a tensile member that helps the belt maintain its length under load. When installed correctly it supports a more stable power transmission, especially in belt drives where heat, vibration or repeated load changes can otherwise affect the life.

Li 3940 mm, Ld 4000 mm and La 4028 mm describe three different measurement lines on the same belt. The difference between the measurements is due to the thickness and geometry of the belt, and therefore they should be seen as technical specifications rather than interchangeable length indications.

Technical questions about XPB V-belts

What does XPB 4000 mean on this belt?

XPB is the profile designation and 4000 refers to the effective length Ld in millimeters. For this item, this means that the belt is specified as XPB profile with dimensions 17x14 MM, Li 3940 mm, Ld 4000 mm and La 4028 mm.

Is PIX X'tra® a regular wrapped V-belt?

No. The PIX X'tra® in this series is a moulded raw edge cogged belt. It differs from classic wrapped belts in construction, flexibility and working surface.

When should the belt be replaced?

The belt should be replaced if there are ctiming bars, obvious side surface wear, frayed edges, glazing, squealing, vibrations or repeated retensioning. The pulleys should also be in good condition, as a new belt will wear quickly in damaged grooves.

Do all belts need to be replaced if there are several next to each other?

Yes, in parallel belt drives it is usually best to replace the entire set. Mixing belts of different ages or levels of wear can cause the load to be unevenly distributed, causing one belt to work harder than the others.

Can the belt be used in hot or oily environments?

PIX lists the series as heat and oil resistant, but this does not mean that the belt should run in constant oil contamination or without control of the operating environment. Cleaning, shielding and correct sizing are still important.

What does antistatic performance mean?

Antistatic design means that the belt is designed to reduce static charge under suitable conditions. In specific environments, the final suitability depends on the requirements of the entire plant and relevant approvals.

Belt operation depends on the profile, length, tension and pulley groove matching. Worn or damaged grooves can shorten belt life, while correct alignment and a clean contact surface provide more stable power transmission.

The essence: The key data for this XPB V-belt is: PIX X'tra® series, 17x14 MM, Ld 4000 mm, Li 3940 mm, La 4028 mm, timing underside and raw edge construction. It is relevant after overall match between belt, pulley and drive.
