Description

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200 – precise PU timing belt for synchronous power transmission

With 120 teeth distributed over a pitch length of 1200 mm, the Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200 is designed for precise transmission of rotation, stroke and position. The belt is cast endlessly in PU and has integrated steel cord tension elements that stabilize the length during normal operation. The nominal tooth pitch is 10 mm and the tooth profile must match the profile of the pulleys exactly. It is not sufficient for another belt to have approximately the same length or width. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

Fixed specifications

  • Pitch length: 1200 mm
  • Number of teeth: 120
  • Tooth profile: AT10
  • Tooth pitch: 10 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

The technical data below describes the part of the product that does not change when a different belt width is selected. Pitch length, tooth pitch and number of teeth remain identical for all width choices. However, the width affects the available belt cross-section width and the price calculated on the product page. Correct sizing must always take into account torque, speed, number of teeth in mesh, pulley diameters, service factor and any counter-bending.

Profile, tooth pitch and engagement

In a synchronous belt drive, the movement is transmitted through the tooth flanks. The geometry of the AT profile is therefore crucial for both load distribution, noise level and position accuracy. A correct AT pulley supports the teeth according to the profile to which they are cast. If the pulley's tooth shape or pitch deviates, the load can be concentrated at a few pu and cause abnormal wear, even though the belt can apparently be mounted.

Belt construction

Conti Synchroflex is manufactured by casting, where the polyurethane is precisely shaped to the tool's tooth geometry around the embedded steel cord tension elements. The casting process provides high pitch accuracy over the entire circumference of the belt and a strong connection between PU and cord. The finished timing belt is endless and therefore has no welded joints. The polyurethane provides a wear-resistant tooth and back surface, while the steel cord takes the longitudinal tensile load.

Standard, GEN III or DL – this version

The product is the regular Conti Synchroflex standard version in the specified profile. Standard and GEN III may have the same pitch length and number of teeth, but they are different product series with different material construction and capacity data. The same applies to a DL belt, which has teeth on both sides. When reordering, the entire profile designation should therefore be checked, not just the length.

Profile and length must match

When replacing a spare part, the marking on the existing belt should be compared with the product name. Check the profile designation, pitch length, number of teeth, design and width. If the text on the belt has worn away, the number of teeth can be counted and the pitch can be assessed by measuring over several teeth. A single external length measurement is less reliable because the nominal length of the timing belt is indicated in the pitch line.

Typical applications and sizing

The profile series is used in practice for tasks such as construction machinery, pu , paper machines, compressors, compactors, textile machines and roller conveyor drives. Common to these machines is the need for a fixed transmission ratio and controlled tooth engagement. A timing belt can transmit both force and position, but the capacity cannot be assessed based on length alone. Width, profile version, wrap angle and load cycle are among the data that must be included in the selection.

Choosing belt width

This product line has been created with 16 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 16 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.

The discs are part of the overall solution

The number of teeth on the pulleys affects both the gear ratio, deflection and how many belt teeth carry the load. A small pulley may be necessary in a compact drive, but it should not be selected without considering the minimum profile requirements and any counter deflection. Use timing belt pulleys with 10 mm pitch and the correct AT10 tooth shape, and check that the flanges do not damage the belt edge.

Splice, alignment and pre-tensioning

The timing belt pulleys must be parallel and in the same plane. Even minor misalignments can cause the belt to move towards a flange and cause edge or cord damage. The belt should be installed without being twisted, sharply bent or pressed over a flange with a tool. The center distance is adjusted to achieve the calculated preload. Too high a tension increases the bearing and cord load, while too low a tension can cause tooth jumps at load peaks.

Operating conditions of PU timing belt

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.

Wear patterns and troubleshooting

Uniform light polishing of the tooth flanks may be normal, but localised spalling, ctiming baring or severe wear should be investigated. Wear on one edge often indicates misalignment or persistent flange contact. Damage to tooth tips may be due to incorrect profile, foreign bodies or inadequate engagement. If cord becomes visible or the belt has a sharp break, it should not continue in service without assessment.

Technical questions about the product

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: is the polyurethane oil and chemical resistant?

The standard PU is described as resistant to simple oils, grease and petrol as well as certain acids and bases. This does not mean universal chemical resistance. In the case of continuous contact, high concentrations or cleaning agents, the specific liquid, temperature and exposure time should be assessed.

Is the Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200 welded?

No. The Conti Synchroflex series is manufactured as cast, endless timing belts. The belt therefore does not have a welded joint around the circumference. The cast process provides a uniform tooth pitch around the entire belt and a strong bond between the polyurethane and the cast steel cord tension elements.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: when should the timing belt pulleys be replaced?

Pulleys should be evaluated if the tooth grooves are worn, sharp, crooked or damaged. A new belt on worn pulleys may have poor load distribution and short life. Also check flanges for bars and side contact and the grooves for foreign objects.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: what is the difference between AT10 and a GEN III belt?

This product is the standard version. GEN III is a separate reinforced series with red high-performance PU and denser, two-filament steel cord. The same profile and length therefore do not mean that the products are identical.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: are the standard widths the only possible widths?

The documented supplier widths for this size include 16, 20, 25, 32 and 50 mm. The product page may also show intermediate sizes as cut widths when they are within the allowed range. This does not change the tooth profile or length, but the price is calculated based on the base width.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: why can a timing belt make noise?

Noise can be caused by incorrect pretension, skewed pulleys, poor tooth profile compatibility, excessive speed, resonance or worn tooth grooves. Lubrication is not the solution. First check alignment, tension, pulley condition and whether the belt runs without abnormal side contact.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: what is the difference between tooth pitch and pitch length?

The tooth pitch is the distance from one tooth to the next and is 10 mm for this profile. The pitch length is the entire nominal circumference in the cord line and is 1200 mm. When the pitch length is divided by the tooth pitch, the belt has 120 teeth.

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200: can an old V-belt be directly replaced by this timing belt?

No. A timing belt requires timing belt pulleys with the correct profile and pitch, while a V-belt works by friction in V-grooves. A conversion therefore requires new pulleys and a dimensioning of the entire transmission. The product is intended as a timing belt, not as a universal replacement.

Summary

Conti Synchroflex AT10 1200 is the correct size when the drive requires AT10, 1200 mm pitch length and 120 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
