The Conti Synchroflex AT10 1600 is an endless, cast polyurethane timing belt with 160 teeth, 10 mm tooth pitch and a pitch length of 1600 mm. It is intended for synchronous power transmission, where the driving and driven shafts must follow a fixed tooth ratio without the slippage known from friction-based belt drives. The pitch length is the nominal length measurement in the belt's cord line and is therefore the measurement that must be compared with the existing belt, the machine's spare parts data and the installed timing belt pulleys. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.
The list gathers the information normally used to identify a timing belt: nominal length, number of teeth, profile, material and make. It is important to read all the information together. Two belts can have the same pitch length but be incompatible if the tooth profile or tooth pitch is different. Conversely, a different width does not change the number of teeth as long as the profile and pitch length are the same.
The AT profile has been further developed from the classic T profile. The larger tooth volume provides a higher tooth shear strength, and the profile is designed for a favorable tooth engagement with reduced engagement shocks. This makes the AT series suitable when a drive must be compact and at the same time transmit motion precisely. Continental states that the AT profile can perform up to 50% more than a corresponding T profile, but the actual capacity always depends on width, discs, speed and load profile.
With the cast manufacturing method, the finished belt becomes an exact copy of a precision-machined shape. This is a major reason for the uniform tooth pitch and reproducible length. The steel cord is integrated into the polyurethane and contributes to position and angular precision. The design is suitable for synchronous drives, where a conventional elastic friction belt does not provide the desired repeatability.
This item is a single-sided standard design. The teeth are located on the inside of the belt, while the back is smooth. It should not be confused with a double-sided DL version or the red GEN III series. If the machine is originally dimensioned for a specific variant, a change should only be made after a technical assessment of load, pulleys and preload.
Continental cites construction machinery, pu , paper machines, compressors, compactors, textile machines and roller conveyor drives as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the profile's general area of application, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.
The tooth profile of the timing belt pulleys must correspond to the AT10 of the belt, and their pitch must be 10 mm. The transmission ratio is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth of the pulleys, not by the width of the belt. A larger pulley usually reduces the bending load, while a very small pulley gives more bending per revolution. The angle of engagement and the number of teeth in mesh must be sufficient for the current load.
The timing belt pulleys must be parallel and in the same plane. Even minor misalignments can cause the belt to move towards a flange and cause edge or cord damage. The belt should be installed without being twisted, sharply bent or pressed over a flange with a tool. The center distance is adjusted to achieve the calculated preload. Too high a tension increases the bearing and cord load, while too low a tension can cause tooth jumps at load peaks.
This product line has been created with 16 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 16 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.
Early damage is often caused by conditions surrounding the belt rather than the material itself. Bent shafts, worn tooth grooves, foreign objects and incorrect pretensioning can all shorten the service life. In the event of a belt break, the pulleys should therefore be cleaned and inspected before the new belt is fitted. Also check whether load conditions or start-stop cycles have changed since the original design.
The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.
The product's 160 teeth provide a convenient length check. Multiplying the number of teeth by 10 mm gives a pitch length of 1600 mm. If an existing belt has a different number of teeth, it is not the same size, even though it may look almost the same length. Also check that the teeth on the pulleys match the AT10; the same pitch number alone is not always sufficient.
Pulleys should be evaluated if the tooth grooves are worn, sharp, crooked or damaged. A new belt on worn pulleys may have poor load distribution and short life. Also check flanges for bars and side contact and the grooves for foreign objects.
Count the teeth and check the pitch. 160 teeth times 10 mm gives 1600 mm pitch length. Then compare the profile and design with the marking or the machine's spare parts list. A measurement around the outside of the belt alone is not accurate enough.
The tooth engagement provides a positive, synchronous transmission without the normal slippage of a friction belt. This makes the profile relevant for positioning tasks, but the achievable accuracy also depends on the quality of the pulleys, shaft play, belt pretension, load and the overall machine design.
The documented supplier widths for this size include 16, 20, 25, 32 and 50 mm. The product page may also show intermediate sizes as cut widths when they are within the allowed range. This does not change the tooth profile or length, but the price is calculated based on the base width.
This product is the standard version. GEN III is a separate reinforced series with red high-performance PU and denser, two-filament steel cord. The same profile and length therefore do not mean that the products are identical.
The standard version is single-sided with teeth on the inside and a smooth back. It must run with the teeth in the corresponding tooth grooves; the back is not an alternative tooth side.
The standard PU is described as resistant to simple oils, grease and petrol as well as certain acids and bases. This does not mean universal chemical resistance. In the case of continuous contact, high concentrations or cleaning agents, the specific liquid, temperature and exposure time should be assessed.
The Conti Synchroflex series is designed for precise and fast synchronous drives, but the permissible speed depends on the profile, pulley diameter, belt width, load and peripheral speed. A high speed must therefore not be approved based on the product name alone; the drive must be calculated.
In summary, this is a Conti Synchroflex PU timing belt with a fixed geometry of 10 mm pitch, 160 teeth and 1600 mm pitch length. The width is selected separately, but does not change the length or number of teeth. A safe replacement requires that the entire designation and the specific version match the machine documentation.
