Syncroflex T10 timing belt

Description

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780 – endless metric timing belt for synchronous drives

With 178 teeth spread over a pitch length of 1780 mm, the Conti Synchroflex T10 1780 is designed for precise transmission of rotation, timing and position. The belt is cast endlessly in PU and has integrated steel cord tension elements that stabilize the length during normal operation. The nominal tooth pitch is 10 mm and the tooth profile must match the profile of the pulleys exactly. It is not sufficient for another belt to have approximately the same length or width. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

The most important product data

  • Pitch length: 1780 mm
  • Number of teeth: 178
  • Tooth profile: T10
  • Tooth pitch: 10 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

These specifications can be used as a check against the marking on the old belt or against the machine's spare parts list. The pitch length is not necessarily the same as a measurement across the outside of the belt, and the number of teeth is therefore often the safest additional check. If in doubt, both the belt and timing belt pulleys should be examined before ordering a replacement.

How tooth geometry works

As a classic metric profile, the T-series is used in many machines where reliable synchronous movement is important. The tooth shape is trapezoidal, and the number in the profile designation indicates the tooth pitch in millimeters. The correct washer must therefore both have the same pitch and be manufactured for the T-profile. The wrong profile can lead to poor engagement, noise and rapid wear.

Cast polyurethane and steel cord

With the cast manufacturing method, the finished belt becomes an exact copy of a precision-machined shape. This is a major reason for the uniform tooth pitch and reproducible length. The steel cord is integrated into the polyurethane and contributes to position and angular precision. The design is suitable for synchronous drives, where a conventional elastic friction belt does not provide the desired repeatability.

The construction behind this variant

This item is a single-sided standard design. The teeth are located on the inside of the belt, while the back is smooth. It should not be confused with a double-sided DL version or the red GEN III series. If the machine is originally dimensioned for a specific variant, a change should only be made after a technical assessment of load, pulleys and preload.

Areas of application

The profile series is used in practice for tasks such as machine tools, main and auxiliary drives, textile machines and printing machines. Common to these machines is the need for a fixed transmission ratio and controlled tooth engagement. A timing belt can transmit both force and position, but the capacity cannot be assessed based on length alone. Width, profile version, wrap angle and load cycle are among the data that must be included in the selection.

The discs are part of the overall solution

The tooth profile of the timing belt pulleys must correspond to the T10 of the belt, and their pitch must be 10 mm. The transmission ratio is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth of the pulleys, not by the width of the belt. A larger pulley usually reduces the bending load, while a very small pulley gives more bending per revolution. The angle of engagement and the number of teeth in mesh must be sufficient for the current load.

How to avoid unnecessary wear and tear

The timing belt pulleys must be parallel and in the same plane. Even minor misalignments can cause the belt to move towards a flange and cause edge or cord damage. The belt should be installed without being twisted, sharply bent or pressed over a flange with a tool. The center distance is adjusted to achieve the calculated preload. Too high a tension increases the bearing and cord load, while too low a tension can cause tooth jumps at load peaks.

Choosing belt width

The basic price applies to 6 mm, and the other widths are calculated with the same percentage logic as the existing PU timing belts in the webshop. Integer widths from 6 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. A width of twice the basic width therefore costs 100% more, while a width of one and a half times the basic width gives approximately 50% extra. This price rule is a webshop calculation; it does not replace a technical dimensioning of the belt's load-bearing capacity.

What does belt wear indicate?

A properly running timing belt should move smoothly without continuous contact against one flange. Regularly check the teeth for deformation, the back for ctiming bars and the edges for frayed areas. Abnormal noise or heat can be an early sign of incorrect tension or pulley failure. A systematic check of pulleys and belt is more effective than trying to hide symptoms with lubricant.

Temperature, media and service

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.

Profile and length must match

When replacing a spare part, the marking on the existing belt should be compared with the product name. Check the profile designation, pitch length, number of teeth, design and width. If the text on the belt has worn away, the number of teeth can be counted and the pitch can be assessed by measuring over several teeth. A single external length measurement is less reliable because the nominal length of the timing belt is indicated in the pitch line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: can the belt be shortened or assembled to a different length?

No. This is a cast endless timing belt with a fixed pitch length. It can be cut to width within the available options, but the circumference and number of teeth cannot be changed. If the length needs to be changed, a different cast belt size is required.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: what happens if the discs are not aligned?

Misalignment can cause the belt to wander towards a flange, causing edge pressure, heat and wear damage. It can also affect tooth engagement and reduce service life. Check both the parallelism of the shafts and the alignment of the pulleys.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: does this PU timing belt need to be lubricated?

No. The timing belt is designed for lubrication-free operation. Oil or grease should not be added to reduce noise as this may mask an alignment, pretension or worn pulley problem. Instead, keep the tooth mesh clean and check the cause of any abnormal noise.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: what does the pitch length of 1780 mm mean?

The pitch length is the nominal length measured in the belt cord line where the steel cord tension members are located. It is not the same as a random outside circumference measurement. For this belt, 1780 mm pitch length corresponds to 178 teeth with a 10 mm tooth pitch.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: can the belt be reversed on the pulleys?

The standard version is single-sided with teeth on the inside and a smooth back. It must run with the teeth in the corresponding tooth grooves; the back is not an alternative tooth side.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: is the polyurethane oil and chemical resistant?

The standard PU is described as resistant to simple oils, grease and petrol as well as certain acids and bases. This does not mean universal chemical resistance. In the case of continuous contact, high concentrations or cleaning agents, the specific liquid, temperature and exposure time should be assessed.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: how to check if the length is correct?

Count the teeth and check the pitch. 178 teeth times 10 mm gives 1780 mm pitch length. Then compare the profile and design with the marking or the machine's spare parts list. A measurement around the outside of the belt alone is not accurate enough.

Conti Synchroflex T10 1780: why can a timing belt make noise?

Noise can be caused by incorrect pretension, skewed pulleys, poor tooth profile compatibility, excessive speed, resonance or worn tooth grooves. Lubrication is not the solution. First check alignment, tension, pulley condition and whether the belt runs without abnormal side contact.

The most important thing about this size

In summary, this is a Conti Synchroflex PU timing belt with a fixed geometry of 10 mm pitch, 178 teeth and 1780 mm pitch length. The width is selected separately, but does not change the length or number of teeth. A safe replacement requires that the entire designation and the specific version match the machine documentation.
