Syncroflex T10 timing belt

Description

Conti Synchroflex T10 920 – dimensionally stable timing belt for positioning and power transmission

The Conti Synchroflex T10 920 combines a precise T10 tooth geometry with a molded polyurethane body and longitudinally stable steel cord tension elements. The product has 92 teeth and a pitch length of 920 mm, which corresponds to a tooth pitch of 10 mm. The belt is used in synchronous drives where uniform movement and reproducible position are more important than the elasticity normally associated with a conventional V-belt or flat belt. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It should not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

Technical information for this timing belt

  • Pitch length: 920 mm
  • Number of teeth: 92
  • Tooth profile: T10
  • Tooth pitch: 10 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

These specifications can be used as a check against the marking on the old belt or against the machine's spare parts list. The pitch length is not necessarily the same as a measurement across the outside of the belt, and the number of teeth is therefore often the safest additional check. If in doubt, both the belt and timing belt pulleys should be examined before ordering a replacement.

How tooth geometry works

The trapezoidal T-geometry is a standardized solution for synchronous transmission. The teeth mesh with corresponding grooves in the timing belt pulley, so that the speed ratio is maintained without slipping. The correct pitch is crucial: a T5 belt, for example, will not fit in an AT5 pulley simply because the tooth pitch is 5 mm in both places. The shape and clearance of the tooth flanks are different.

Belt construction

With the cast manufacturing method, the finished belt becomes an exact copy of a precision-machined shape. This is a major reason for the uniform tooth pitch and reproducible length. The steel cord is integrated into the polyurethane and contributes to position and angular precision. The design is suitable for synchronous drives, where a conventional elastic friction belt does not provide the desired repeatability.

The execution must be correctly identified

The product is the regular Conti Synchroflex standard version in the specified profile. Standard and GEN III may have the same pitch length and number of teeth, but they are different product series with different material construction and capacity data. The same applies to a DL belt, which has teeth on both sides. When reordering, the entire profile designation should therefore be checked, not just the length.

Areas of application

Continental cites machine tools, main and auxiliary drives, textile machines and printing machines as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the general area of application of the profile, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.

Maintenance-free does not mean control-free

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special dimensioning. The timing belt operates without lubrication, and oil or grease should therefore not be added to dampen noise. The polyurethane is described as resistant to aging as well as simple oils, grease and petrol and to certain acids and bases. In the case of permanent contact, cleaning chemicals or unknown media, material compatibility should be specifically clarified.

The belt width is selected on the product page

This product line has been created with 6 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 6 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.

Timing belt pulleys and transmission ratios

A belt of the correct length can still function poorly if the pulleys have the wrong profile, are worn or are misaligned. Therefore, check the tooth grooves, flanges, shaft alignment and the number of teeth on the pulleys. For T10, the nominal tooth pitch is 10 mm. The fixed tooth mesh makes the gear ratio reproducible, but only when the belt has sufficient wrap and does not run with constant side pressure.

Correct splice in the timing belt tensioner

When installing, the cord pullers must be protected against kinks and local pressure damage. The belt must not be pinched with pliers or a screwdriver, and it should not be folded sharply. Check that the pulleys have the same pitch and profile as the belt and that they are not worn out. A stable drive is achieved through the right combination of alignment, wrapping and calculated pretension.

Prevention of early belt damage

Troubleshooting should start with pu location of the damage. Edge wear is typically associated with grooveing and alignment, while tooth skipping can be associated with too low tension, load peaks or too few teeth in mesh. Ctiming bars on the back can be caused by too small rollers, back bending or environmental influences. Do not simply replace the belt without also finding the mechanical cause.

How to identify the correct replacement belt

It is not enough to compare the total circumference of a belt. The correct replacement must have the same pitch, tooth profile and number of teeth as the existing drive. The width must match the pulleys and the required capacity, and a DL or GEN III version must be identified separately. If in doubt, pictures of the marking, tooth profile and pulleys can be used as a supplement, but a documented spare part designation is best.

Technical questions about the product

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: what happens if the discs are not aligned?

Misalignment can cause the belt to wander towards a flange, causing edge pressure, heat and wear damage. It can also affect tooth engagement and reduce service life. Check both the parallelism of the shafts and the alignment of the pulleys.

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: what should be checked after the first run-in?

Check that the belt runs centrally, that there is no abnormal heat or noise, and that the edges are not constantly rubbing against the flanges. Also look for signs of too low or too high pretension. If the drive requires a re-tension check, the machine manufacturer's procedure must be followed.

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: can the belt be used for precise positioning?

The tooth engagement provides a positive, synchronous transmission without the normal slippage of a friction belt. This makes the profile relevant for positioning tasks, but the achievable accuracy also depends on the quality of the pulleys, shaft play, belt pretension, load and the overall machine design.

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: is the polyurethane oil and chemical resistant?

The standard PU is described as resistant to simple oils, grease and petrol as well as certain acids and bases. This does not mean universal chemical resistance. In the case of continuous contact, high concentrations or cleaning agents, the specific liquid, temperature and exposure time should be assessed.

Is the Conti Synchroflex T10 920 welded?

No. The Conti Synchroflex series is manufactured as cast, endless timing belts. The belt therefore does not have a welded joint around the circumference. The cast process provides a uniform tooth pitch around the entire belt and a strong bond between the polyurethane and the cast steel cord tension elements.

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: when should the timing belt pulleys be replaced?

Pulleys should be evaluated if the tooth grooves are worn, sharp, crooked or damaged. A new belt on worn pulleys may have poor load distribution and short life. Also check flanges for bars and side contact and the grooves for foreign objects.

Conti Synchroflex T10 920: can the belt be shortened or assembled to a different length?

No. This is a cast endless timing belt with a fixed pitch length. It can be cut to width within the available options, but the circumference and number of teeth cannot be changed. If the length needs to be changed, a different cast belt size is required.

How many teeth does the Conti Synchroflex T10 920 have?

The belt has 92 teeth. The number of teeth is calculated by dividing the pitch length of 920 mm by the tooth pitch of 10 mm. The result is 92, and this number can be used as an additional check when identifying an existing belt. A different number of teeth means a different pitch length.

The product in brief

Conti Synchroflex T10 920 is the correct size when the drive requires T10, 920 mm pitch length and 92 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
