Syncroflex T10 timing belt

Description

Conti Synchroflex T10 980 – wear-resistant PU timing belt for standardized timing belt drives

The Conti Synchroflex T10 980 is an endless, cast polyurethane timing belt with 98 teeth, 10 mm tooth pitch and a pitch length of 980 mm. It is intended for synchronous power transmission, where the driving and driven shafts must follow a fixed tooth ratio without the slippage known from friction-based belt drives. The pitch length is the nominal length measurement in the belt's cord line and is therefore the measurement that must be compared with the existing belt, the machine's spare part data and the installed timing belt pulleys. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

Fixed specifications

  • Pitch length: 980 mm
  • Number of teeth: 98
  • Tooth profile: T10
  • Tooth pitch: 10 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

These specifications can be used as a check against the marking on the old belt or against the machine's spare parts list. The pitch length is not necessarily the same as a measurement across the outside of the belt, and the number of teeth is therefore often the safest additional check. If in doubt, both the belt and timing belt pulleys should be examined before ordering a replacement.

Function of the tooth profile

As a classic metric profile, the T-series is used in many machines where reliable synchronous movement is important. The tooth shape is trapezoidal, and the number in the profile designation indicates the tooth pitch in millimeters. The correct washer must therefore both have the same pitch and be manufactured for the T-profile. The wrong profile can lead to poor engagement, noise and rapid wear.

Belt construction

With the cast manufacturing method, the finished belt becomes an exact copy of a precision-machined shape. This is a major reason for the uniform tooth pitch and reproducible length. The steel cord is integrated into the polyurethane and contributes to position and angular precision. The design is suitable for synchronous drives, where a conventional elastic friction belt does not provide the desired repeatability.

What does the version designation mean?

The product is the regular Conti Synchroflex standard version in the specified profile. Standard and GEN III may have the same pitch length and number of teeth, but they are different product series with different material construction and capacity data. The same applies to a DL belt, which has teeth on both sides. When reordering, the entire profile designation should therefore be checked, not just the length.

Relevant machine tasks

Continental cites machine tools, main and auxiliary drives, textile machines and printing machines as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the general area of application of the profile, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.

Gear ratio, enclosure and tooth contact

The number of teeth on the pulleys affects both the gear ratio, deflection and how many belt teeth carry the load. A small pulley may be necessary in a compact drive, but it should not be selected without considering the minimum profile requirements and any counter deflection. Use timing belt pulleys with 10 mm pitch and the correct T10 tooth shape, and check that the flanges do not damage the belt edge.

Splice, alignment and pre-tensioning

The timing belt pulleys must be parallel and in the same plane. Even minor misalignments can cause the belt to move towards a flange and cause edge or cord damage. The belt should be installed without being twisted, sharply bent or pressed over a flange with a tool. The center distance is adjusted to achieve the calculated preload. Too high a tension increases the bearing and cord load, while too low a tension can cause tooth jumps at load peaks.

The belt width is selected on the product page

The basic price applies to 6 mm, and the other widths are calculated with the same percentage logic as the existing PU timing belts in the webshop. Integer widths from 6 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. A width of twice the basic width therefore costs 100% more, while a width of one and a half times the basic width gives approximately 50% extra. This price rule is a webshop calculation; it does not replace a technical dimensioning of the belt's load-bearing capacity.

What does belt wear indicate?

A properly running timing belt should move smoothly without continuous contact against one flange. Regularly check the teeth for deformation, the back for ctiming bars and the edges for frayed areas. Abnormal noise or heat can be an early sign of incorrect tension or pulley failure. A systematic check of pulleys and belt is more effective than trying to hide symptoms with lubricant.

Operating conditions of PU timing belt

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The service life is not only affected by the material, but also by load peaks, bending, pulley size, alignment and environment. Keep the drive clean and do not remove deposits with sharp tools that could damage the teeth. If the belt operates in chemically exposed areas, food environments, clean rooms or at extreme temperatures, a suitable special design should be considered.

How to identify the correct replacement belt

The 98 teeth of the product provide a convenient length check. Multiplying the number of teeth by 10 mm gives a pitch length of 980 mm. If an existing belt has a different number of teeth, it is not the same size, even though it may look almost the same length. Also check that the teeth of the pulleys match T10; the same pitch number alone is not always sufficient.

Technical questions about the product

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: why is the number of teeth important for spare parts?

The number of teeth links the pitch of the profile to the nominal length of the belt. For this size, 98 teeth at 10 mm pitch gives a length of 980 mm. It is a simple check that often reveals faults that are not visible by a quick comparison of two loose belts.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: what temperature can the belt work at?

The standard version is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. At temperatures below -10 °C or above +50 °C, adapted sizing may be required.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: when should the timing belt pulleys be replaced?

Pulleys should be evaluated if the tooth grooves are worn, sharp, crooked or damaged. A new belt on worn pulleys may have poor load distribution and short life. Also check flanges for bars and side contact and the grooves for foreign objects.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: can the belt be installed by pressing it over the flange of the pulley?

This should be avoided. The belt should be installed by adjusting the center distance or following the correct installation procedure for the machine. Forcing it over a flange can damage the cord pullers, teeth or belt edge. After installation, the pulleys must be parallel and the pretension must be correct.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: why is 6 mm chosen as the basic width?

6 mm is the width of the supplier item whose SKU is used as the main product's stock reference. Other widths are handled as choices under the same product because they are cut from the same type of timing belt sleeve. The base width also determines the percentage-based pricing in the webshop.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: how does preload affect operation?

Correct pretension keeps the teeth in stable engagement and reduces the risk of tooth jump. Too low a tension can cause impact and jump under load, while too high a tension increases the load on the cord, pulleys and bearings. The correct value must be determined based on the drive's dimensioning.

Is the Conti Synchroflex T10 980 welded?

No. The Conti Synchroflex series is manufactured as cast, endless timing belts. The belt therefore does not have a welded joint around the circumference. The cast process provides a uniform tooth pitch around the entire belt and a strong bond between the polyurethane and the cast steel cord tension elements.

Conti Synchroflex T10 980: can the belt be shortened or assembled to a different length?

No. This is a cast endless timing belt with a fixed pitch length. It can be cut to width within the available options, but the circumference and number of teeth cannot be changed. If the length needs to be changed, a different cast belt size is required.

The most important thing about this size

Conti Synchroflex T10 980 is the correct size when the drive requires T10, 980 mm pitch length and 98 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
