Description

Conti Synchroflex T2 160 – classic PU timing belt with trapezoidal teeth

With 80 teeth spread over a pitch length of 160 mm, the Conti Synchroflex T2 160 is designed for precise transmission of rotation, stroke and position. The belt is cast endlessly in PU and has integrated steel cord tension elements that stabilize the length during normal operation. The nominal tooth pitch is 2 mm and the tooth profile must match the profile of the pulleys exactly. It is not sufficient for another belt to have approximately the same length or width. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

The most important product data

  • Pitch length: 160 mm
  • Number of teeth: 80
  • Tooth profile: T2
  • Tooth pitch: 2 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

The technical data below describes the part of the product that does not change when a different belt width is selected. Pitch length, tooth pitch and number of teeth remain identical for all width choices. However, the width affects the available belt cross-section width and the price calculated on the product page. Correct sizing must always take into account torque, speed, number of teeth in mesh, pulley diameters, service factor and any counter-bending.

What characterizes the T2 profile?

As a classic metric profile, the T-series is used in many machines where reliable synchronous movement is important. The tooth shape is trapezoidal, and the number in the profile designation indicates the tooth pitch in millimeters. The correct washer must therefore both have the same pitch and be manufactured for the T-profile. The wrong profile can lead to poor engagement, noise and rapid wear.

PU body and longitudinally stable traction elements

The endless PU construction combines low dead weight with high longitudinal rigidity. The steel cord tension elements are cast into the belt and are not intended to be exposed, damaged or sharply broken during installation. The wear resistance of the polyurethane and the strong bond to the cord are central to the belt's lifespan. Correct handling is therefore just as important as the correct choice of profile and length.

The specific product version

This item is a single-sided standard design. The teeth are located on the inside of the belt, while the back is smooth. It should not be confused with a double-sided DL version or the red GEN III series. If the machine is originally dimensioned for a specific variant, a change should only be made after a technical assessment of load, pulleys and preload.

The belt width is selected on the product page

The belt width is not written into the product name because the same pitch length is collected on one product page. The starting pu is 4 mm. Integer widths from 4 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The original supplier widths for this length are 4, 6 and 10 mm. Other intermediate sizes are offered as cut-to-sizes of the same type of timing belt sleeve when they are within the selection shown. The number of teeth, pitch length and profile do not change when the width is changed.

Where is this profile used?

The application examples in the catalogue include precision mechanics, positioning drives, small synchronous mechanisms and compact machine drives. This shows that the profile can be used in both power transmission and motion control. However, the specific belt must only be finally selected when the machine's torque, speed, center distance and pulley geometry are known. When simply replacing a spare part, the safest method is usually to copy the documented profile, length, design and width.

Profile and length must match

The 80 teeth of the product provide a convenient length check. Multiplying the number of teeth by 2 mm gives a pitch length of 160 mm. If an existing belt has a different number of teeth, it is not the same size, even though it may look almost the same length. Also check that the teeth of the pulleys match T2; the same pitch number alone is not always sufficient.

Gear ratio, enclosure and tooth contact

A belt of the correct length can still function poorly if the pulleys have the wrong profile, are worn or are misaligned. Therefore, check the tooth grooves, flanges, shaft alignment and the number of teeth on the pulleys. For T2, the nominal tooth pitch is 2 mm. The fixed tooth mesh makes the gear ratio reproducible, but only when the belt has sufficient wrap and does not run with constant side pressure.

Correct splice in the timing belt tensioner

The belt must be able to be placed on the pulleys without force. If it can only be mounted by forcing it over a flange, the center distance or mounting procedure is incorrect. The pulley shafts must be aligned and the flanges must be smooth and undamaged. In the case of multi-shaft or counter-bent drives, the diameter and position of the rollers must be assessed separately. Correct pretensioning reduces the risk of tooth skipping without unnecessarily loading the bearings.

What does belt wear indicate?

Troubleshooting should start with pu location of the damage. Edge wear is typically associated with grooveing and alignment, while tooth skipping can be associated with too low tension, load peaks or too few teeth in mesh. Ctiming bars on the back can be caused by too small rollers, back bending or environmental influences. Do not simply replace the belt without also finding the mechanical cause.

Operating environment and maintenance

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.

Questions and answers about this timing belt

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: what is the difference between T2 and a GEN III belt?

This product is the standard version. GEN III is a separate reinforced series with red high-performance PU and denser, two-filament steel cord. The same profile and length therefore do not mean that the products are identical.

Is the Conti Synchroflex T2 160 welded?

No. The Conti Synchroflex series is manufactured as cast, endless timing belts. The belt therefore does not have a welded joint around the circumference. The cast process provides a uniform tooth pitch around the entire belt and a strong bond between the polyurethane and the cast steel cord tension elements.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: can an old V-belt be directly replaced by this timing belt?

No. A timing belt requires timing belt pulleys with the correct profile and pitch, while a V-belt works by friction in V-grooves. A conversion therefore requires new pulleys and a dimensioning of the entire transmission. The product is intended as a timing belt, not as a universal replacement.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: can T2 be used on a different tooth profile with the same pitch?

No, not without documented compatibility. The 2 mm tooth pitch describes the distance between the teeth, but the shape and clearance of the tooth flanks may differ. The belt must be used with pulleys manufactured for the T2 profile. Visual similarity is not sufficient documentation.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: why is 4 mm chosen as the basic width?

4 mm is the width of the supplier item whose SKU is used as the main product's stock reference. Other widths are handled as choices under the same product because they are cut from the same type of timing belt sleeve. The base width also determines the percentage-based pricing in the webshop.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: what temperature can the belt work at?

The standard version is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. At temperatures below -10 °C or above +50 °C, adapted sizing may be required.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: can the belt run with counter-bending?

The possibility depends on the profile, cord design, the diameter of the rollers and the specific belt routing. Counter-bending increases the bending load and must be included in the dimensioning. A roller on the belt back must have sufficient diameter and be positioned so that tooth engagement and grooveing are not impaired.

Conti Synchroflex T2 160: why can a timing belt make noise?

Noise can be caused by incorrect pretension, skewed pulleys, poor tooth profile compatibility, excessive speed, resonance or worn tooth grooves. Lubrication is not the solution. First check alignment, tension, pulley condition and whether the belt runs without abnormal side contact.

The most important thing about this size

Conti Synchroflex T2 160 is the correct size when the drive requires T2, 160 mm pitch length and 80 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
