With 78 teeth spread over a pitch length of 780 mm, the Conti Synchroflex AT10 780 is designed for precise transmission of rotation, timing and position. The belt is cast endlessly in PU and has integrated steel cord tension elements that stabilize the length during normal operation. The nominal tooth pitch is 10 mm and the tooth profile must match the profile of the pulleys exactly. It is not sufficient for another belt to have approximately the same length or width. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.
The list gathers the information normally used to identify a timing belt: nominal length, number of teeth, profile, material and make. It is important to read all the information together. Two belts can have the same pitch length but be incompatible if the tooth profile or tooth pitch is different. Conversely, a different width does not change the number of teeth as long as the profile and pitch length are the same.
In a synchronous belt drive, the movement is transmitted through the tooth flanks. The geometry of the AT profile is therefore crucial for both load distribution, noise level and position accuracy. A correct AT pulley supports the teeth according to the profile to which they are cast. If the pulley's tooth shape or pitch deviates, the load can be concentrated at a few pu and cause abnormal wear, even though the belt can apparently be mounted.
The belt body consists of wear-resistant polyurethane, which encloses high-strength steel cord. The materials each have their own function: PU forms the teeth and protects the belt against mechanical wear, while the cord tensioning elements provide high longitudinal stiffness and limit post-elongation. Continental describes the design as maintenance-friendly and lubrication-free. This does not mean that the drive can be ignored; pulleys, alignment and pretension should still be checked.
The product is the regular Conti Synchroflex standard version in the specified profile. Standard and GEN III may have the same pitch length and number of teeth, but they are different product series with different material construction and capacity data. The same applies to a DL belt, which has teeth on both sides. When reordering, the entire profile designation should therefore be checked, not just the length.
Continental cites construction machinery, pu , paper machines, compressors, compactors, textile machines and roller conveyor drives as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the profile's general area of application, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.
The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.
The belt width is not written in the product name because the same pitch length is collected on one product page. The starting pu is 20 mm. Integer widths from 20 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The original supplier widths for this length are 20, 25, 32 and 50 mm. Other intermediate sizes are offered as cut-to-sizes of the same type of timing belt sleeve when they are within the selection shown. The number of teeth, pitch length and profile do not change when the width is changed.
A belt of the correct length can still function poorly if the pulleys have the wrong profile, are worn or are misaligned. Therefore, check the tooth grooves, flanges, shaft alignment and the number of teeth on the pulleys. For AT10, the nominal tooth pitch is 10 mm. The fixed tooth mesh makes the gear ratio reproducible, but only when the belt has sufficient wrap and does not run with constant side pressure.
When installing, the cord pullers must be protected against kinks and local pressure damage. The belt must not be pinched with pliers or a screwdriver, and it should not be folded sharply. Check that the pulleys have the same pitch and profile as the belt and that they are not worn out. A stable drive is achieved through the right combination of alignment, wrapping and calculated pretension.
Troubleshooting should start with pu location of the damage. Edge wear is typically associated with grooveing and alignment, while tooth skipping can be associated with too low tension, load peaks or too few teeth in mesh. Ctiming bars on the back can be caused by too small rollers, back bending or environmental influences. Do not simply replace the belt without also finding the mechanical cause.
It is not enough to compare the total circumference of a belt. The correct replacement must have the same pitch, tooth profile and number of teeth as the existing drive. The width must match the pulleys and the required capacity, and a DL or GEN III version must be identified separately. If in doubt, pictures of the marking, tooth profile and pulleys can be used as a supplement, but a documented spare part designation is best.
Check that the belt runs centrally, that there is no abnormal heat or noise, and that the edges are not constantly rubbing against the flanges. Also look for signs of too low or too high pretension. If the drive requires a re-tension check, the machine manufacturer's procedure must be followed.
The Conti Synchroflex series is designed for precise and fast synchronous drives, but the permissible speed depends on the profile, pulley diameter, belt width, load and peripheral speed. A high speed must therefore not be approved based on the product name alone; the drive must be calculated.
The number of teeth links the pitch of the profile to the nominal length of the belt. For this size, 78 teeth at 10 mm pitch gives a length of 780 mm. It is a simple check that often reveals faults that are not visible by a quick comparison of two loose belts.
The pitch length is the nominal length measured in the belt cord line where the steel cord tension elements are located. It is not the same as a random outer circumference measurement. For this belt, 780 mm pitch length corresponds to 78 teeth with a 10 mm tooth pitch.
The standard PU is described as resistant to simple oils, grease and petrol as well as certain acids and bases. This does not mean universal chemical resistance. In the case of continuous contact, high concentrations or cleaning agents, the specific liquid, temperature and exposure time should be assessed.
Store the belt in a dry, clean place away from direct sunlight, ozone, strong heat or chemical fumes. It should be free from sharp bends and without heavy loads on top. Avoid hanging a small belt over a sharp hook as this can cause local deformation.
The standard version is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. At temperatures below -10 °C or above +50 °C, adapted sizing may be required.
Conti Synchroflex AT10 780 is the correct size when the drive requires AT10, 780 mm pitch length and 78 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
