Conti Synchroflex T5 525 is an endless, cast polyurethane timing belt with 105 teeth, 5 mm tooth pitch and a pitch length of 525 mm. It is intended for synchronous power transmission, where the driving and driven shafts must follow a fixed tooth ratio without the slippage known from friction-based belt drives. The pitch length is the nominal length measurement in the belt's cord line and is therefore the measurement that must be compared with the existing belt, the machine's spare part data and the installed timing belt pulleys. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.
The list gathers the information normally used to identify a timing belt: nominal length, number of teeth, profile, material and make. It is important to read all the information together. Two belts can have the same pitch length but be incompatible if the tooth profile or tooth pitch is different. Conversely, a different width does not change the number of teeth as long as the profile and pitch length are the same.
The trapezoidal T-geometry is a standardized solution for synchronous transmission. The teeth mesh with corresponding grooves in the timing belt pulley, so that the speed ratio is maintained without slipping. The correct pitch is crucial: a T5 belt, for example, will not fit in an AT5 pulley simply because the tooth pitch is 5 mm in both places. The shape and clearance of the tooth flanks are different.
The belt body consists of wear-resistant polyurethane, which encloses high-strength steel cord. The materials each have their own function: PU forms the teeth and protects the belt against mechanical wear, while the cord tensioning elements provide high longitudinal stiffness and limit post-elongation. Continental describes the design as maintenance-friendly and lubrication-free. This does not mean that the drive can be ignored; pulleys, alignment and pretension should still be checked.
The standard version is selected when the supplier's article data does not specify GEN III or DL. This is an important product distinction, because different versions can share both profile and length. Therefore, on this product page, it is the standard version that is described. The belt width can be selected, but the basic construction and tooth geometry are not changed.
The product's 105 teeth provide a convenient length check. Multiplying the number of teeth by 5 mm gives a pitch length of 525 mm. If an existing belt has a different number of teeth, it is not the same size, even though it may look almost the same length. Also check that the teeth on the pulleys match the T5; the same pitch number alone is not always sufficient.
Continental cites office machines, household appliances, positioning drives and control drives as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the general area of application of the profile, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.
This product line has been created with 6 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 6 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.
The number of teeth on the pulleys affects both the gear ratio, deflection and how many belt teeth carry the load. A small pulley may be necessary in a compact drive, but it should not be selected without considering the minimum profile requirements and any counter deflection. Use timing belt pulleys with 5 mm pitch and the correct T5 tooth shape, and check that the flanges do not damage the belt edge.
The belt must be able to be placed on the pulleys without force. If it can only be mounted by forcing it over a flange, the center distance or mounting procedure is incorrect. The pulley shafts must be aligned and the flanges must be smooth and undamaged. In the case of multi-shaft or counter-bent drives, the diameter and position of the rollers must be assessed separately. Correct pretensioning reduces the risk of tooth skipping without unnecessarily loading the bearings.
The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special dimensioning. The timing belt operates without lubrication, and oil or grease should therefore not be added to dampen noise. The polyurethane is described as resistant to aging as well as simple oils, grease and petrol and to certain acids and bases. In the case of permanent contact, cleaning chemicals or unknown media, material compatibility should be specifically clarified.
Uniform light polishing of the tooth flanks may be normal, but localised spalling, ctiming baring or severe wear should be investigated. Wear on one edge often indicates misalignment or persistent flange contact. Damage to tooth tips may be due to incorrect profile, foreign bodies or inadequate engagement. If cord becomes visible or the belt has a sharp break, it should not continue in service without assessment.
6 mm is the width of the supplier item whose SKU is used as the main product's stock reference. Other widths are handled as choices under the same product because they are cut from the same type of timing belt sleeve. The base width also determines the percentage-based pricing in the webshop.
Count the teeth and check the pitch. 105 teeth times 5 mm gives 525 mm pitch length. Then compare the profile and design with the marking or the machine's spare parts list. A measurement around the outside of the belt alone is not accurate enough.
The possibility depends on the profile, cord design, the diameter of the rollers and the specific belt routing. Counter-bending increases the bending load and must be included in the dimensioning. A roller on the belt back must have sufficient diameter and be positioned so that tooth engagement and grooveing are not impaired.
Pulleys should be evaluated if the tooth grooves are worn, sharp, crooked or damaged. A new belt on worn pulleys may have poor load distribution and short life. Also check flanges for bars and side contact and the grooves for foreign objects.
The steel cord tension members absorb the longitudinal tensile load and provide high longitudinal stiffness. This helps maintain pitch and position during operation. The cord must not be kinked, exposed or damaged during installation, as local damage can weaken the belt.
Check that the belt runs centrally, that there is no abnormal heat or noise, and that the edges are not constantly rubbing against the flanges. Also look for signs of too low or too high pretension. If the drive requires a re-tension check, the machine manufacturer's procedure must be followed.
The documented supplier widths for this size include 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32 and 50 mm. The product page may also show intermediate sizes as cut widths when they are within the allowed range. This does not change the tooth profile or length, but the price is calculated based on the base width.
Conti Synchroflex T5 525 is the correct size when the drive requires T5, 525 mm pitch length and 105 teeth. The belt is cast endless in PU with steel cord and must be used with timing belt pulleys that match the profile. Choose the width according to the technical load and always check the design, alignment and pretension before commissioning.
