Conti Synchroflex T5 800 is an endless, cast polyurethane timing belt with 160 teeth, 5 mm tooth pitch and a pitch length of 800 mm. It is intended for synchronous power transmission, where the driving and driven shafts must follow a fixed tooth ratio without the slippage known from friction-based belt drives. The pitch length is the nominal length measurement in the cord line of the belt and is therefore the measurement that must be compared with the existing belt, the machine's spare parts data and the installed timing belt pulleys. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It must not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.
These specifications can be used as a check against the marking on the old belt or against the machine's spare parts list. The pitch length is not necessarily the same as a measurement across the outside of the belt, and the number of teeth is therefore often the safest additional check. If in doubt, both the belt and timing belt pulleys should be examined before ordering a replacement.
The T-profile is the classic metric timing belt profile with trapezoidal teeth and is described as a standard profile according to DIN 7721. It is used for general synchronous drives, positioning tasks and solutions with significant bending. The simple and proven geometry of the profile makes it widely used, but it still needs to be matched with a T-disc with the same tooth pitch. AT, HTD and other profiles are not automatically interchangeable.
The endless PU construction combines low dead weight with high longitudinal rigidity. The steel cord tension elements are cast into the belt and are not intended to be exposed, damaged or sharply broken during installation. The wear resistance of the polyurethane and the strong bond to the cord are central to the belt's lifespan. Correct handling is therefore just as important as the correct choice of profile and length.
This item is a single-sided standard design. The teeth are located on the inside of the belt, while the back is smooth. It should not be confused with a double-sided DL version or the red GEN III series. If the machine is originally dimensioned for a specific variant, a change should only be made after a technical assessment of load, pulleys and preload.
When replacing a spare part, the marking on the existing belt should be compared with the product name. Check the profile designation, pitch length, number of teeth, design and width. If the text on the belt has worn away, the number of teeth can be counted and the pitch can be assessed by measuring over several teeth. A single external length measurement is less reliable because the nominal length of the timing belt is indicated in the pitch line.
Continental cites office machines, household appliances, positioning drives and control drives as examples for this profile family. The examples describe the general area of application of the profile, but do not constitute an approval for any specific installation. The final belt width and pretension must be selected based on the transmitted torque, starting and shock loads, operating time, pulley sizes, speed and the number of teeth in simultaneous engagement. For safety-critical or heavily loaded drives, an actual calculation should be made.
This product line has been created with 6 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 6 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.
The tooth profile of the timing belt pulleys must correspond to the T5 of the belt, and their pitch must be 5 mm. The transmission ratio is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth of the pulleys, not by the width of the belt. A larger pulley usually reduces the bending load, while a very small pulley gives more bending per revolution. The angle of engagement and the number of teeth in mesh must be sufficient for the current load.
When installing, the cord pullers must be protected against kinks and local pressure damage. The belt must not be pinched with pliers or a screwdriver, and it should not be folded sharply. Check that the pulleys have the same pitch and profile as the belt and that they are not worn out. A stable drive is achieved through the right combination of alignment, wrapping and calculated pretension.
The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The molded PU belt is maintenance-friendly and does not require lubricant. Regular visual inspection is still relevant: look for ctiming bars, frayed edges, shiny tooth flanks, foreign body impressions and abnormal side contact. Sudden changes in noise or grooveing may indicate misalignment, too low tension or worn pulleys.
Troubleshooting should start with pu location of the damage. Edge wear is typically associated with grooveing and alignment, while tooth skipping can be associated with too low tension, load peaks or too few teeth in mesh. Ctiming bars on the back can be caused by too small rollers, back bending or environmental influences. Do not simply replace the belt without also finding the mechanical cause.
The possibility depends on the profile, cord design, the diameter of the rollers and the specific belt routing. Counter-bending increases the bending load and must be included in the dimensioning. A roller on the belt back must have sufficient diameter and be positioned so that tooth engagement and grooveing are not impaired.
Correct pretension keeps the teeth in stable engagement and reduces the risk of tooth jump. Too low a tension can cause impact and jump under load, while too high a tension increases the load on the cord, pulleys and bearings. The correct value must be determined based on the drive's dimensioning.
This should be avoided. The belt should be installed by adjusting the center distance or following the correct installation procedure for the machine. Forcing it over a flange can damage the cord pullers, teeth or belt edge. After installation, the pulleys must be parallel and the pretension must be correct.
The standard version is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. At temperatures below -10 °C or above +50 °C, adapted sizing may be required.
The pitch length is the nominal length measured in the belt cord line where the steel cord tension elements are located. It is not the same as a random outer circumference measurement. For this belt, 800 mm pitch length corresponds to 160 teeth with a 5 mm tooth pitch.
The documented supplier widths for this size include 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32 and 50 mm. The product page may also show intermediate sizes as cut widths when they are within the allowed range. This does not change the tooth profile or length, but the price is calculated based on the base width.
No. The timing belt is designed for lubrication-free operation. Oil or grease should not be added to reduce noise as this may mask an alignment, pretension or worn pulley problem. Instead, keep the tooth mesh clean and check the cause of any abnormal noise.
The tooth pitch is the distance from one tooth to the next and is 5 mm for this profile. The pitch length is the entire nominal circumference in the cord line and is 800 mm. When the pitch length is divided by the tooth pitch, the belt has 160 teeth.
The product brings together the specified T5 profile and length on one side, so that the appropriate width can be selected without creating a separate item for each cut. The main technical data is 800 mm pitch length and 160 teeth. If in doubt about load or pulley compatibility, the drive should be calculated before ordering the belt.
