Description

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010 – heavy-duty PU timing belt with even load distribution

This ATP10 timing belt is specified with a pitch length of 1010 mm and 101 teeth. The ratio between length and number of teeth is fixed: 1010 mm divided by 10 mm gives exactly 101 teeth. The Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010 is supplied as a cast, endless PU belt, so there is no weld joint in the finished ring. The design is developed for synchronous operation and precise machine movements. This is the standard version in the specified profile. It should not be confused with a possible GEN III version or a double-sided DL belt with the same pitch length.

Product data and fixed targets

  • Pitch length: 1010 mm
  • Number of teeth: 101
  • Tooth profile: ATP10
  • Tooth pitch: 10 mm
  • Material: cast polyurethane with steel cord
  • Brand: Conti Synchroflex

The technical data below describes the part of the product that does not change when a different belt width is selected. Pitch length, tooth pitch and number of teeth remain identical for all width choices. However, the width affects the available belt cross-section width and the price calculated on the product page. Correct sizing must always take into account torque, speed, number of teeth in mesh, pulley diameters, service factor and any counter-bending.

Why the correct profile is crucial

ATP10 combines 10 mm metric pitch with a split tooth shape developed for higher loads and smoother engagement. The larger active tooth surface and the more even force distribution are key differences compared to classic trapezoidal profiles. When replacing, the ATP10 designation must therefore be confirmed on the belt, drawing or machine documentation. An AT10 pulley should not be assumed to be compatible without technical documentation.

How the Conti Synchroflex belt is constructed

Conti Synchroflex is manufactured by casting, where the polyurethane is precisely shaped to the tool's tooth geometry around the embedded steel cord tension elements. The casting process provides high pitch accuracy over the entire circumference of the belt and a strong connection between PU and cord. The finished timing belt is endless and therefore has no welded joints. The polyurethane provides a wear-resistant tooth and back surface, while the steel cord takes the longitudinal tensile load.

Standard, GEN III or DL – this version

This item is a single-sided standard design. The teeth are located on the inside of the belt, while the back is smooth. It should not be confused with a double-sided DL version or the red GEN III series. If the machine is originally dimensioned for a specific variant, a change should only be made after a technical assessment of load, pulleys and preload.

Which drives is the product compatible with?

The profile series is used in practice for tasks such as machine tools, grinding machines, textile machines and power transmissions with high demands on the tooth load. Common to these machines is the need for a fixed transmission ratio and controlled tooth engagement. A timing belt can transmit both force and position, but the capacity cannot be assessed based on length alone. Width, profile version, wrap angle and load cycle are among the data that must be included in the selection.

Temperature, media and service

The standard material is specified for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Applications close to the limits, especially below -10 °C or above +50 °C, may require special sizing. The service life is not only affected by the material, but also by load peaks, bending, pulley size, alignment and environment. Keep the drive clean and do not remove deposits with sharp tools that could damage the teeth. If the belt operates in chemically exposed areas, food environments, clean rooms or at extreme temperatures, a suitable special design should be considered.

The belt width is selected on the product page

This product line has been created with 25 mm as the base width because this is the width of the selected item and thus the SKU used for inventory control. Integer widths from 25 to 50 mm can be selected on this product page. The widths that appear as standard widths in the supplier data are marked separately in the options. The price surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base width: doubling the width results in a surcharge of 100%. The technically necessary width should be selected according to the load and not only according to the price.

Disc geometry and tooth engagement

The tooth profile of the timing belt pulleys must correspond to the belt's ATP10 and their pitch must be 10 mm. The transmission ratio is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth on the pulleys, not by the width of the belt. A larger pulley usually reduces the bending load, while a very small pulley gives more bending per revolution. The angle of engagement and the number of teeth in mesh must be sufficient for the current load.

How to avoid unnecessary wear and tear

Proper installation begins with clean, undamaged pulleys with the correct profile. Teeth and grooves should be checked for deposits, bars and wear before the new belt is fitted. The pretension should be based on the drive's calculation and should not be selected based on a random hand feel. After the initial run-in, it is a good idea to check grooveing, noise, temperature and whether the belt runs centrally.

Wear patterns and troubleshooting

Uniform light polishing of the tooth flanks may be normal, but localised spalling, ctiming baring or severe wear should be investigated. Wear on one edge often indicates misalignment or persistent flange contact. Damage to tooth tips may be due to incorrect profile, foreign bodies or inadequate engagement. If cord becomes visible or the belt has a sharp break, it should not continue in service without assessment.

Checking when replacing

When replacing a spare part, the marking on the existing belt should be compared with the product name. Check the profile designation, pitch length, number of teeth, design and width. If the text on the belt has worn away, the number of teeth can be counted and the pitch can be assessed by measuring over several teeth. A single external length measurement is less reliable because the nominal length of the timing belt is indicated in the pitch line.

Answers to typical questions

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: what should be checked after the first run-in?

Check that the belt runs centrally, that there is no abnormal heat or noise, and that the edges are not constantly rubbing against the flanges. Also look for signs of too low or too high pretension. If the drive requires a re-tension check, the machine manufacturer's procedure must be followed.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: why can a timing belt make noise?

Noise can be caused by incorrect pretension, skewed pulleys, poor tooth profile compatibility, excessive speed, resonance or worn tooth grooves. Lubrication is not the solution. First check alignment, tension, pulley condition and whether the belt runs without abnormal side contact.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: can the belt be used for precise positioning?

The tooth engagement provides a positive, synchronous transmission without the normal slippage of a friction belt. This makes the profile relevant for positioning tasks, but the achievable accuracy also depends on the quality of the pulleys, shaft play, belt pretension, load and the overall machine design.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: how to check if the length is correct?

Count the teeth and check the pitch. 101 teeth times 10 mm gives 1010 mm pitch length. Then compare the profile and design with the marking or the machine's spare parts list. A measurement around the outside of the belt alone is not accurate enough.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: can an old V-belt be directly replaced by this timing belt?

No. A timing belt requires timing belt pulleys with the correct profile and pitch, while a V-belt works by friction in V-grooves. A conversion therefore requires new pulleys and a dimensioning of the entire transmission. The product is intended as a timing belt, not as a universal replacement.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: how does preload affect operation?

Correct pretension keeps the teeth in stable engagement and reduces the risk of tooth jump. Too low a tension can cause impact and jump under load, while too high a tension increases the load on the cord, pulleys and bearings. The correct value must be determined based on the drive's dimensioning.

Conti Synchroflex ATP10 1010: what is the difference between ATP10 and a GEN III belt?

This product is the standard version. GEN III is a separate reinforced series with red high-performance PU and denser, two-filament steel cord. The same profile and length therefore do not mean that the products are identical.

Summary

The product brings together the specified ATP10 profile and length on one side, so that the appropriate width can be selected without creating a separate item for each cut. The main technical data is 1010 mm pitch length and 101 teeth. If in doubt about load or pulley compatibility, the drive should be calculated before ordering the belt.
